NGERINGA Summit Pinot Noir 2017

Before we start…a little about the 2017 Vintage –
Adelaide Hills recorded its largest annual rainfall in a quarter of a century during the 2017 growing season. Although these heavy rains created disease pressure for many local wineries, our biodynamically-managed vineyards remained healthy and vibrant, producing some of our best grapes so far. An extended harvest helped by a long slow ripening period also contributed to what was, for us, a dream vintage, offering both excellent quality grapes and quantity.

 

 

 

Tasting notes – Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this lighter coloured Pinot, it’s bursting with vibrant aromas and flavours. Tight and restrained on the nose with fresh scents of wild strawberry and sour cherry, mixed with cedar, cloves and cinnamon. Peppy red forest fruits and black cherry that linger, tempered by energetic tannins and fresh acidity.

About NGERINA Summit Pinot Noir 2017 –
NGERINGA Summit Pinot Noir is made from solely estate-grown fruit, from our steep easterly facing Summit vineyard, sitting 360m above sea level, with a direct line of sight to Lake Alexandrina and the Murray mouth. The grapes are very gently hand-harvested, de-stemmed and lightly hand plunged for two to three weeks before pressing directly into French barrels, for eleven months of maturation. A minimal dash of sulphur is added just prior to bottling, to protect from oxidation.

NGERINGA Iluma Syrah 2017

 

 

 

Tasting notes – An elegant and refined Syrah, representative of one of Ngerina’s finest vintages. Deep red in colour with aromas of green peppercorn, olive tapenade, five spice, blueberry and brambles. Flavour-wise, it’s ripe brooding dark fruit characters are balanced by earthy tones with hints of liquorice and aniseed.

About NGERINGA Iluma Syrah 2017 –
NGERINGA Iluma Syrah is grown on a westerly facing slope on the immediate foothills to the north of Mt Barker Summit. At 420m altitude, the soil of the Iluma vineyard sparkles with micaceous schist, capturing the eyes, and the imagination, of many a passerby, with its mystical reflective qualities. The grapes are selected from a small section within the Iluma vineyard where there are three distinct rocky ridges. It’s here that the schist is most concentrated, and the grapes have the best flavour. The bunches are gently hand-harvested, and then de-stemmed into small batch fermenters, where they remain on skins for up to 28 days before pressing into French oak barriques and Foudre, for 24-months of maturation before bottling. One of our premium wines, the Iluma Syrah is sealed with best quality cork and wax capping.

NGERINGA Altus 2014

 

 

 

Tasting notes – A golden nectar, rich sweet and complex, with concentrated notes of dried apricots, figs, prunes, apples, cedar and burnt caramel. On the palate, this dessert wine has vibrant characters of raisin and honey, blended with hints of Turkish delight and crème caramel. Lingering flavours, like the sweetest of memories, promise to keep your tastebuds smiling for hours.

About NGERINGA Altus 2014 –
NGERINGA Altus is made from solely estate-grown aromatic grape varieties – predominantly Viognier and Pink Semillon with small quantities of Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. The grapes are gently hand-harvested, placed on repurposed timber drying racks – previously used on the Jurlique Herb Farms for drying herbs and flowers, and left for three weeks to more than double their sugar concentration by process of dehydration. The dried grapes are then pressed over several days, into an old French barrique, where they remain, outside in the elements for five years, to allow for fermentation and oxidative maturation. The final product is lovingly estate bottled into 375ml bottles, for you to enjoy now, or further preserve for your own special occasion.

Uncultured Pinot Noir 2018

 

 

 

 

Tasting notes – A ruby red Pinot Noir with medium body, a balance of lifted, vibrant fruit flavours, and savoury earthiness. Sweet red-blood plum and sour cherry jump out of the glass, bursting with energy, whilst more grounded flavours like cinnamon, essence of spicy turmeric and crunchy tannins work to bring this together as tightly woven package. 

About Uncultured Pinot Noir 2018 –
Ngeringa Estate’s Uncultured Pinot Noir is made from solely estate-grown fruit, from our steep easterly facing Summit vineyard slope, sitting 360m above sea level, with a direct line of sight to Lake Alexandrina and the Murray mouth. The grapes are gently hand-harvested and processed using 100% carbonic maceration, which allows for fermentation of the whole berries, meaning that they remain intact without crushing or removal from the stems. The fruit is then left to steep for seven days before pressing into small seasoned French barrels, for eleven months of maturation. Our Uncultured Pinot Noir 2018 is lovingly estate bottled, with a minimal addition of sulphur to prevent oxidation.
