After 6 months underground in healthy @Ngeringa soil, all 200+ BD500 (horn manure) cow horns were dug up this week. Filled in April with fresh cow manure, the content of the horns has transformed in to rich, humus-like, nutritious soil treatment which we will use across the vineyard and farm this spring and autumn. Activated in water, this is our most important #biodynamic application. Healthy soil = healthy vines = happy winemaker

At an altitude of 360m the Summit vineyard is located on the easterly facing slopes of Mount Barker. The soil is a light sandy loam over clay. Our best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are grown here.

At the moment we are setting up the crop for vintage 2021 by shoot thinning. It looks like it could be an interesting season weather wise ...

Ngeringa’s Erinn Klein just cruised past the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta . He is participating in the Race to the Rock 2020 and has ridden well over 1500 kms since Saturday combating horrible head winds, heat, corrugated dirt tracks, getting minimal sleep but he is a seasoned campaigner & is now in the lead . Way to go Erinn!!

The day has finally arrived!!! @SeedingNatives are spreading 2 native seed mixes across our @Ecovineyard native grass trial plots where we’ve either herbicided using the certified organic @Bioweed or not, and added #biochar or not. We’ll continue our posts over time sharing how the grasses establish. While we’ve rotary hoed the plots x3, we still expect weed growth to be challenging. I’ll be happy to see a spattering of native grasses but maybe we’ll be luckier 🤞 🌱

We have simplified the range … We have three Single Vineyard wines from our top vineyard sites; Summit Vineyard Chardonnay, Summit Vineyard Pinot Noir and Iluma Vineyard Syrah. They are from our most exciting soils, most expressive sections of the vineyards, vinified in small batches and held in bottle for a minimum of 12 months before release. For the first time, our wines are under top quality cork and waxed with local pure beeswax.
Then we have the more colourful NGERINGA label wine. Vibrant, expressive varietals, all hand made from 100% Ngeringa grapes.

Ngeringa, as the name of our property, is a word meaning ‘place of Sheoak”, our native needle tree, Allocasuarina verticulata. This name reflects our respect for the natural environment and the land that this farm was before it was cleared. It also represents the vitality and life-force that its silica-rich needles give us. Its colour is native, harmonious and regenerative.
