On August 7th, we were honoured to be the recipents of a gold medal in the delicious Magazine Food Awards in Melbourne for our Biodynamic Salad Mix! The award is a fabulous endorsement that what we are doing in our vegetable patch is good and is relevant to the growing movement in food provenance. If you have visited us at the cellar door recently, you cannot have failed to notice the ever-expanding vegetable patch just at the top of the hill. Since Ngeringa began in 2005, our biodynamic wine production has been built on the foundation of a self-sustaining farm and we have maintained a philosophy that sees food and wine production occurring side by side from farm and vineyard to plate and glass. From the outset, as part of our broader farm activities, we have grown vegetables to feed ourselves and our animals, for use in menus at the cellar door and to sell to a number of discerning local chefs. With the help now of our fabulous onsite farmer Andy Taylor, we have increased our production considerably to allow us to sell vegetable boxes also to the broader public. Our fabulous soils and low-input approach to farming make the actual growing pretty easy and supplying the best veg we can incredibly rewarding.
