J.E SYRAH2010A soft-edged wine displaying the rustic characteristics we have come to expect of our JE Syrah. Bright and lifted on the nose. Cassis, wild... …bramble and blood plums with sweet tobacco leaf and aromatic cloves. A red-berry and black-pepper palate with ashen, chalky tannins and a touch of spicy barrel sweetness. A gentle, approachable wine. 100% Syrah from various batches harvested from all three of our vineyards, Summit and Rufus in Mt Barker and Illuma in Nairne. Made deliberately to be a more approachable wine than our NGERINGA Syrah, the JE Syrah is often selected for its juicier fruit expression, gentler tannin profile and approachability when young.

NGERINGA PINOT NOIR2010A more refined version of Pinot Noir than our previous vintage, but maintaining many of the classic dried French herb characteristics. Thyme, marjoram... ..tarragon and lavender notes against a flinty, lit-match aroma. A velvety tannic structure with tight acidity and the fragrant lift of carbonic maceration. Violet crumble, plums and forest floor spiciness. Thoroughly integrated oak retains the elegance of the fruit at the forefront of this wine. The finish is long with a dry minerality. |

NGERINGA SYRAH2009A dazzling garnet wine with deep aromas of roasted coffee beans, cured game meats, forest undergrowth and toffee. A fantastically complex spiced-fruit palate of plum sauce and blueberries with generous additions of cinnamon and allspice. Characteristically plush, powdery tannic structure and a weightiness in the mouth. Finishes long, dry and savoury. Planted on a westerly facing slope on the immediate foothills of the Mt Barker Summit at 420m altitude, the Nairne vineyard soil sparkles with micaceous schist amidst a shallow sandy loam over clay. A challenging viticultural site with the potential for very distinctive wines. |
